May 26, 2014 - Letter to Mom

Hey Momma!!

Sorry I´m lame, but I´m over here in tenerife and I don't really have any time to talk!!!  Like zero haha I feel bad, but just know that it has been a great week and that we had some great things happen!  Our members really love us so much and they are all amazing!!!

So I ended up giving a surprise talk the other day and it kind of freaked me out!  It was like a co talk with my comp about the plan of salvation and it was rough... Like no notes no anything just get up in front of 50 people and talk... I had a couple freeze up moments with my spanish, but overall it was pretty good!!!  SO ya!!!  And I promise to send you all the bomb pictures I have next week!!  Cuz they are awesome!!!  And tenerife is great... I found an elder here that played rugby in Argentina, and we are like best friends now haha We were playing basketball, but it kind of turned into rugby like hitting each other haha but all in good fun and president was kind of like ummm what's going on and then he was laughing too hahah

Well love ya!!  Sounds like you had a pretty great week, and hope all the work gets done fast!!  That´s sad that you guys are empty nesters now... on the bright side for you guys I like don´t have any home friends now I'm sure pretty much so we can hang out a lot when I get back before school haha if there's time... anyways... where are the Williams moving too?? That´s sad.  She was a super good counselor right?? Ya And that´s so aweosme everything going on with the Fenns!!  Fielding wrote me this  week and told me about Fort Collins, so that is super awesome!!

Ok not sure what else to say... I promise I´ll catch you up on everything in pics and email next week!  Have a great week!  Smile!  I love you!!

May 19, 2014 - Letter to Dad - Week 37

Hey dad!!!

The ham is absolutely delicious!!  We hit the bone on one side and had to flip it over, but this side is the more flavorful side so it´s pretty good!!  Not sure why there is a better side and a worse side, but I just read the direcion and that´s what it told me!!  Hmm I don´t know how to describe the way it tastes.  Kendal´s mom tried it when she visited Madrid and she was telling me in her email that she compares it kind of to beef jerky, but that it´s tender like a filet of steak or something.  Not sure if that description makes sense, but maybe I can try and send one to yo guys!!  I´ll look in to how much it costs!!
Ya it is so awesome that Marta, Dary and Anna got baptized!!  The cool thing as well is that you are allowed to talk to recent converts in the mission so now they are allowed to send me and Elder Sargent letters and emails and stuff and we can talk with them!!  before I was only able to talk with mario and eddi!!
What is the high adventure activity for this year??  I got pretty lucky with having awesome activities every year!!  Hey another random question!  When was the last time you guys went to ummm oh goodness I forgot the name.  Oh when was the last time you guys went to the San Gabriels?? We should definitely do that when I get back before I head off to college or something!  Ya the south of the island is way beautiful!  Here in my part, it isn´t as green, but the water is just as blue which is still nice even though we can see it from a distance.
Yesterday we ate dinne with a member, who has a super nice view of the whole estern coast of the island.  Oh man we need to find a way to get a view like that!!  Well I hope everything goes well with work this week!  I really need to study the words for hardwood flooring this week, because I was talking to another member about them this week, and I had no clue about some of the words we were using haha But anyways!  It was a pretty average week work wise, but I hope it gets better this week!  It seems like all of our investigatiors are super bus with work and just life in general so we have had a hard time meeting with them, but I think we will be able to get a better week this week!!  Well have a good week dad!!  Love you!!

May 19, 2014 - Letter to Mom

Hey Momma!!

So ya I definitely got to hear like 3 or 4 times that my city was on fire this week and that California and San Diego were burning and on fire, but the lame thing is that I wasn´t able to like go see for a minute if my family was alive and stuff....  No I was sure you guys were fine but I was curious all weekend if the fires got anywhere near Poway!!  Sounds like everything was fine, but that´s a LOT of fires burning!!  Dang San Diego Wild Fires!!! haha But I bet you guys all enjoyed the extra time without school to relax and suff.  Did you still have work??

Justin told me all about his free time but Kara forgot to write me :P oh well!  That´s cool that Justin was taking care of the missionaries! It was nice in Barrio 2 if we were really thirsty or had to use the bathroom or something we could stop by the Hurtados or the Bonifaz or just anyone really, but here we only have like a few families and nobody lives near us, so if we need to go we just go to the chapel really fast and ya!  Gatorade sounds really good!  hahah I remember I bought one gatorade in Madrid and it was amazing!!  Anyways that was random.  Sounds like the missionaries in our area are well taken care of!  How many misisonaries are there in the spanish branch right now?  I remember when I left there were like 4 or  but now that I know more about this stuff that seems like a ton for a spanish branch in Poway!!  anyways...

I´ll answer your questions and then tell you a little about my week!! Sound good? Yaaaa...

1.  Ya that last supper pic was super cool huh!?!  And there were some other ones of the simpsons and stuff but they weren´t as cool... I´m not sure the diffeence between permanent and non pemanent sand sculptures but I think somebody just made that there, so I would guess non permanent???  Who knows!! But ya I hope I can go down there again one of these days!!  Or up to the north actually is next on my list of where I want to go!!!

2. They are size 18 neck with a regular fit I think.  And they they are pretty darn big, so ya I guess a couple smaller would be nice, but send them to Madrid!!  maybe like 17 1/2 with a slim fit or something like that, but I´m not sure...  I think I'll try and look around here too!!  We´ll see how it goes... I bought a new long sleeve last week that is smaller, but I forgot to look for short sleeves as well....

3.  Oh well I guess I already patially answered this...  But ya anfi is supe beautiful!  My favorite that we visited last week as far as coolest looking.  From pictures, I think the island that I want to visit most would have to be La Palma or Lanzaote!!  Those both are super beautiful, and here in Gran Canaria, I think I want to visit the north where the mountains are.  Someone showed me a picture of the view from the mountain and the water looks amazing and you can see Tenerife and everything, speaking of which I am super excited to go and visit Tenerife in a week... I ´ll be sure and take plenty of pics for you guys!!

4.  Fun... Hmmm good question...  Not gonna lie to you guys, I had way more fun with our four elder piso in barrio 2 and the nerf guns and just always having a ton of people around... But here I guess sometimes we go up and sit on the roof and enjoy the view, we have a soccer ball in the house for when we are bored, and I have a french book of mormon and I have actually learned a decent amount in the past week!  Knowing spanish and english, french becomes a lot more easy :) hhaha But ya not sure what else we do for fun...

5.  Bwah that is a rough one to answer...  I used to get really frustrated and feel like a terrible missionary and a terrible person because sometimes we have those weeks here where nothing happens...  But it helps that overall I am pretty positive.  But you just kind of get used to it I guess, especially in some missions and some areas.  I´m not much of an expert, but I bet that is one of the things I have learned the most recently:  Just like no matter how lame the situation is sometimes, just keep on going and enjoy the little things.  So ya that.. .Or I just explode wih frustration to switch it up and keep things interesting haha...

That´s so crazy tha Kara is heading off for college in a few weeks!!!  Blah  I feel like everyone else is getting older and moving and doing stuff and I´m missing it all haha, but that´s really fun!!  I hope she is excited!  That is going to be a bummer though for Justin to be an only child for a little while...  Hey what apartments do the Bairds own in provo??  I was just really curious about that and the names weren´t coming to my mind.  I know they are all guys pisos and stuff, but when Kendal asked me about byu housing in her email it made me think of that and I was curious!  How weird Kendal has to plan her housing at BYU pretty soon too!!  Seems like time is flying bye sometimes hahaha

Hmm what else... Well ok it has been a pretty decent week!!  And I do have one awesome story that I have wanted to share!!  I don´t know if you already read Kendal´s email, but my story is like a twin to hers kinda haha So we were out on Tuesday night and our lesson failed on us and we didn´t have a ton else planned that we could do, so it came to my mind to go and ring the timbre of these old investigators that we only met with once, and then they like disappeared... Anyways I think I told you about his family already once, they moved here from Tenrife and he is from Russia and she is from Venzuela and they have two little funny kids... Well ya we walked bye and rang the buzzer outside the complex and Denis peaks his head out the window and says something that prety much translates to "woah there you are!" and he buzzes us in...  Well Daniela comes out and tells us the coolest story ever!  She had just had a super rough day, because she wants to ge married with Denis and have a real family, but I guess the catholic preacher dude said some pretty harsh stuff to her and that they were better off just living together unmarried, and so she was talking to her sister and she said, "hey weren´t you visiting with he mormons??"  And so she is like yaaa I need to call them!!  So she was on lds.or looking for our phone number, and couldn´t find it and right then when she was gonna give up we rang he door bell!  Pretty good timing huh??? Well ya so we ended up talking to them for a while and she asked if we could have a mariage through the church, and said she wants to get baptized and Denis too and the kids but we explained they have to be a little older and she is totally cool with that!!  So ya I think we have a wedding planned for the 13th of july and if all goes well not sure when but maybe a same day baptism or possibly the week after we still have to see how everything works out but ya!!!  That was my exciting story for the week!!

The rest was kind of the same walking aound trying to find peope to teach and not having all the success we would like, but it´s ok!  We also had this super good ward activity on Friday!  Well branch activity... We got everyone together and split off in pairs of two and went out to search for all the less actives in our area.  We went on splits and I was with Hermano Manuel(husband of the lady who sewed some of my pants)  And Elder Lopez was with a super cool dominican guy that techniclaly is in the las palmas ward but wanted to come help us because he is our high consel rep and is super awesome!  Anyways the night ended up being really successful, as we passed by the houses of over 50 families, and didn´t talk with that many but still were able to meet with quite a few, and looks like we might have a busy week visiting wih some less actives here in the branch, which should be fun!!! So ya that was pretty much my week!  Hope you enjoyed the stories and stuff... Not too much else happened that was interesting... But ya!!

Tenerife next week and I´m still not sure how we are traveling there, but my guess is on a boat!  I´ll tell you guys all about it next week!!  Love you mom!!!  Thanks for the update on the week!  Sounds lke you survived another round of fires, and everything is going good!!  Good luck with work and everything!!!  I bet it´s not easy with two jobs until you are done at Maredy, but you are always busy it seems, so I´m sure its fine :)  Well i gotta go... Maybe I´ll pass by later since we don't have money to go anywhere this week, so if you have a question I didnt answer, send it to me and I´ll respond!!!  Love you!!

May 12, 2014 - Letter to Mom

Hey Momma!!!

Just stopped by to read the emails real quick and give a quick response... I´m lame and forgot my camera cable, so I think I am going to run back here later and try to send you a bunch of awesome pictures from the south of the island!!  It was really great getting to Skype you guys!!  It ended up not being all that "short" haha But I loved it and it made my week for sure!  I look really funny in the pictures btw...  It was a wierd camera angle and lighting... but anyways!  That sounds like a brutal work schedule for you and dad!  I hope it all gets done well without too much being tired!  I Love You guys!!

So like I said the other night, I was reading a little bit about church history and what happened with the mobs and everything in Missouri, and it´s amazing to see all the courage that the early saints had, despite so much persecution.  It made me think because of all the talks in conference we just had about being courageous and standing up for your beliefs.  When you read of what some people went through, it really puts into perspective how important it all is.  And we really aren´t in all that much danger, maybe we have to be the only person in a group not doing something, or be teased by some because they say we are outdated, but at least we don´t have pistols in our faced commanding us to deny Christ right??  I love the words of President Monson from I don´t remember when.  I know I probably wasn´t listening well on our couch, but I remember Monson saying something like..." Dare to be a Mormon, Dare to stand alone, Dare to have a purpose, And dare to make it known"...  So ya!!!  No matter what, have a purpose and be proud of what we believe in!  I´m proud to be a member of the same church Christ started so long ago returned in it's fullness by the prophet Joseph Smith!!

Hope you guys have a great week!!  Love you momma!!  Like i said, hopefully I can get you guys lots of pictures later!!!

Love,
Nathan

May 5, 2014 - Letter to Dad - Week 35

Hey Dad!!!

Ya Skype in less than a week!!  I´m way excited!  I think you might have to leave after the sacrament to make it work, but we´ll figure it out!!  It´s only twice a year we can skype anyway!!  Soo sounds like it was a prety busy week for you!! How is the Poway job going?  And that´s a bummer Justin got his phone stolen!  Who had my old phone btw??  Sometimes I miss being able to have a smart phone to look stuff up and know where I am and all the little things like that! haha Hope mom likes her new job, and that all your schedules work out pretty well!  We have met a TON of people this week, and taught in some pretty weird places, I´ll try and get some pictures out for you guys too!!  It was mothers day here in spain yesterday, which was weird because we were like helping the ward get flowers for the moms and stuff and it made it seem like we should have been skyping yesterday, but thats ok!
So my spanish has been getting a lot better!  But I have no clue what type of an accent I have, So guess you guys can tell me next week.. I think Elder lopez was saying I have an accent from like the south of mexico, which i don't know how I picked that up, but cool!!  Almost everyone understands me now and I understand just about everything!! It´s sweet!!  And I am teaching Elder Lopez english!!  He is learning really well and I think he will be able to pass the english test before he goes home next transfer but we´ll see!  Well not too much else I can think of, but I´m really excited to skype in a  few days!!  Have a great week!  Love you!!

Nathan

May 5, 2014 - Letter to Mom

Hey Momma!!!!

Yay 6 days and we can Skype!!!  I still have your Skype and everything I just need to figure out where I can do it!!  And ya I already sent you a little email with the plan I thought up and we´ll see what you think!!  I can´t wait to see all you guys!  It has been too long and I´m excited!!!  Ok I´m gonna answer all of your questions!!

1.  I got one pair back from her and they are amazing!!  I am wearing them right now actually!!  I gave her my worst pair the other day and said good luck hahha she was laughing and said she´ll see what she can do!! And we are going over to their house this Thursday to eat lunch so we´ll see if she can fix them!  I hope so because they are my favorites!!

2.  Ya :(  They are gone... I´m super bummed because they were the best!!! But a new couple just came the other day.. The Larsens!!  We kind of met them accidentally this past Friday and were only able to talk for a few minutes but they seem really nice!!  He served in Madrid a long time ago, and they are from Texas!!  Oh funny story about that actually...  So we were at the house of the stake president eating with his family and having a good time, and the other day I had heard the Larsen´s were coming Friday, but president told me that they were coming today... So we are eating and all of a sudden he gets a call from President Jackson hahah And President Jackson says the Larsens have been waiting in the airport for like 2 hours for someone to pick them up haha And this conversation was going on over he phone and I'm just laughing and President Deniz told President Jackson on me haha but just like joking :)  Not sure that made sense, but I love the stake president and his family!! He really is like a great guy!  He had this family over from Las Palmas that were hired to clean his house or something not sure, but the daughter was talking about how she wants to go on a mission but the dental, interviews and other stuff were getting in the way... So he just pulls out his phone, sets a dental appointment, a bishop appointemnt and says that they will meet this Friday to submit the papers!  haha the girl was like crying excited... Way cool how dedicated some people here are to the progression of the church!  ok next question...

3.  Yep and he loved it all!!  It was funny because I knew the package was coming and one morning we were getting ready and he tells me like elder last night I had a dream that you got a package and it had reeses, so how awesome would it be if there was some in this package! haah and there was!!  Needless to say we were happy :)  And ya I liked the tie!!  I have quite a few ties now, because I got two from elder buhler as well!!  Oh and he gave me a suit :)  It´s a litle small, but it will be fitting in a few weeks perfectly!!  And like it´s a niccceeee suit... So ya I´m spoiled and I love it!!

4.  Transfers are in a week!  And I´ll know what is going on when I call you guys next Sunday, however I am fairly certain I´m staying, and about the same with Elder Lopez.  He only has one transfer left, and it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to move him to Madrid for just six weeks, but weirder things have happened!!!

Sounds like you guys had a pretty busy week!!  That´s a bummer with the stolen phone and Kara getting sick, but it happens!!  It has been a prety good week here in Telde!!  I´m so exhausted and that´s a good thing I´m sure!!  We had like the most lessons we have ever had, which is good, and it was one of the hottest weeks on my mission too!!  I´m gonna end up getting so dark if I stay here on the island for a bit longer!!!  But I´m not complaining about that!!  We met some really awesome families... One of my favorites is a mom and her kids from Ecuador!  The mom seems really busy and it was hard to set an appointment, but her kids are my favorite and we were just laughing the whole time we were there talking with them!!  Ohh and they always make me laugh, but people always want to meet with us in bars!!  Like bars are different from the U.S., they are more like restaurants, but it´s still weird to be able to say we taught people in bars haha

So ya our branch president actually belongs to the other ward in Las Palmas, but they called him in so we could have some more priesthood here.  He´s a good guy, and he works as well so he can only help us some of his free mornings, and we feel bad asking him to drive all the way to Telde, but if we are desperate we will! haha Hmm not sure if I understand the question you asked me and kendal...  Like what else besides food and lessons??  There isn´t a whole lot more that they do for us, but whenever we bring investigators to church, I love when the members will greet them and try to be friends with them... I know it's harder in Poway and maybe they don't bring too many people, so when they do make sure to shower that person with love and friendship... Ya I think that is pretty much all if there is anything else I´ll try and think of it for you!

What happened with Great Grandpa???  Everybody said the other people would say stuff but nobody told me whats going on??  That´s sad that he is in the hospital or passing away whatever is happening :/  But at the same time,  I´m really happy we know where we are going after this life!  It makes everything a lot more acceptable.  Like of course its sad to say bye to somebody but to know that you will see them after gives us that peace that a lot of people don't have :)  I really like alma 40 all about this.  He talks about how the spirits of those who were good on this earth will be brough to a place of rest and paradise, to await the ressurection and their placement in the celestial kingdom :)  I like that :)

Well sorry I dont have too much moe to write to you this week, but I am way excited to Skype in a week!  tell me what you think of noon, and we'll try and make adjustments to make it work!!  Well right abou now I gotta go and eat ceviche!! haha We have an appointment with a peruvian family that we haven't seen in almost 2 months!  the husband left to France and she told us we could meet when he gets back, soooo he got back last week and we get a random call from Nancy inviting us over for lunch and a lesson :)  I love when people call us instead of us having to call them :)  Really shows they are interested :) Well I gotta go!  Love you Momma!!  Hope you have a great first week of work and that it is fun!!  Enjoy it!  Love you!!
